Aspirants slug it out on second day of SAI centre sports trials

The aspirants who are attending the selection trials being conducted by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for induction under its residential and day-boarding schemes competed in their respective games on the second day of the selection process here today.

These players are taking part in the trials in three sports disciplines — athletics, judo and handball.

The in-charge and coordinator of the local training centre of the SAI, Kanta said these aspirants were tested for motor abilities, besides examined with specific skill tests of the sports concerned as per the procedure.

The selection panel, deputed by the SAI Regional Centre, Chandigarh, supervised these players during the trials. The panel will shortlist the talented players who will be examined for the age verification by a team of doctors.

“The selection committee formed by the SAI will check sports achievement certificates and date of birth certificates, and those with the appropriate documents will be recommended to the competent authority for the final approval to induct the eligible players under the respective SAI schemes,” added Kanta.
