Ludhiana, January 24

The Vigilance Bureau has nabbed ASI Mool Raj posted at the Sarabha Nagar police station while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.

The ASI was nabbed on a complaint of Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Star Road, Lohara. Gurdeep has been named in an FIR for pressuring the family of a gang-rape victim for a compromise in April 2019.

According to the complainant, after securing bail, he filed an application to the Police Commissioner seeking re-investigation into his case, and the CP had marked an inquiry to the ASI. Gurdeep said the ASI had demanded Rs 20,000 from him to give inquiry report in his favour, but the deal was settled for Rs 15,000.

The SSP (Vigilance), Rupinder Singh, said they laid a trap and caught the ASI while accepting the bribe money. The case pertains to the rape of a 21-year-old girl, who was with her male friend, by youths at Issewal in February 2019. All accused have been nabbed. Gurdeep had allegedly pressured the girl’s family for a compromise on behalf of the accused.
