ASHA workers submit memo to Civil Surgeon in Ludhiana

In a memorandum submitted to the Civil Surgeon today, ASHA workers highlighted difficulties faced by them while conducting Covid-related surveys.

Members of the All-India ASHA Workers’ Union, Punjab, today protested and submitted a memorandum to the Civil Surgeon.

Balvir Kaur, district president said yesterday a team of ASHA workers went to Krishna Colony in Bhamian Khurd for the survey where they were gheraoed by the area residents.

“The team members were not allowed to collect the data and residents asked us to leave the colony. The area residents even tried to snatch away their mobiles and ID cards and alleged that we collect the data and were responsible for the reports of the area residents coming positive,” said Rajinder Kaur, member of the union.

The ASHA workers further said they tried calling health officials but nobody responded thus they had to face the turmoil alone from 3 pm till 8 pm.

“We have requested the Civil Surgeon to fix the responsibility of someone from the Health Department to accompany the team during the surveys, so that they do not face similar situation in future,” said Balvir Kaur.

ASHA workers are doing house to house survey. Full medical details of the people are being collected, including the comorbidities and other illness. It is an ongoing activity till the containment of the disease. The Ghar Ghar Nigrani app was launched on June 12 by the Punjab Government for undertaking house to house surveillance to contain the spread of Covid-19. The data collected has to be uploaded on the app.
