Ludhiana, August 24

ASHA workers continued their protest for their long-pending demands. They are siting on a dharna outside the Civil Hospital since August 17. In addition to their demands, they also held a candle march for the Ferozepur-based ASHA worker, who lost her life due to Covid-19. ASHA workers demanded that compensation should immediately be given to the family of the deceased.

ASHA workers have never stepped back from their duty. They are also doing a survey in the pandemic, but incentives given to them are less. — Rajveer Kaur, District President, Asha Workers’ Union

Rajveer Kaur, district president of the ASHA Workers’ Union, said, “ASHA workers have never stepped back from their duty. They are also doing survey in the pandemic, but incentives given to them are less.”

Telling about their long-pending demands, Rajveer said, they should be regularised and given fixed salary and incentives. They also demanded smartphones.

“We have been assigned work to carry on door-to-door survey and upload the collected data on the portal at the end of every day. But, as all ASHA workers do not have smartphones they face difficulty in their work. For smooth functioning they should be given smartphones by the government,” said Monika, another ASHA worker.

“We have been struggling for fixed salaries and getting our jobs regularised for years altogether,” said Prem Lata and Jyoti, also ASHA workers.

“The government should listen to us and accept our demands otherwise we will continue with our protest,” they added.
