Arunima bags 6 titles in badminton c’ship

Arunima Pal, a Class XI student of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, stamped her supremacy, winning as many as six titles in the Ludhiana District Badminton Championship which concluded at Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Thursday.

Continuing with her winning streak, today Arunima wrapped up two titles more to sign it off with six titles.

Arunima came out triumphant in girls’ singles category (U-19) as she got the better of Surinder Kaur 21-18, 21-17 and then in the girls double in same age group, in association with Surinder Kaur outclassed Prabhleen Kaur and Siya Trehan 21-3, 21-7.

Earlier, Arunima had emerged winner in the girls singles U-17, mixed doubles, women’s double and senior mixed section.

On the sixth and last day of the championship, Wazir Singh and Amelia Bhakoo came out triumphant, respectively in the boys and girls U-11 section, while in the boys’ double U-11 group Satvik Bhatia and Aarush defeated Swastik Saddi and Harsh Dhillon to clinch the title.

Similarly, in the U-15 category, Vaasvi Singal and Jasraj Singh annexed the titles in the girls and boys sections, respectively whereas in the boys’ double section (U-15), Jasraj Singh and Jasmeh Singh won the title.

Mohinder Singh Grewal, president, District Badminton Association, Ludhiana, gave away prizes to the position holders. Anupam Kumaria, general secretary of the association, along with other office-bearers and parents of the players were present at the prize distribution function.
