Residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Pakhowal Road, are a harried lot.

Reason: Barricades, including poles and trees have been used by certain residents to block the roads in the colony. Earlier, illegal gates installed on various entry/exit points of the colony had become a bone of contention among the residents.

Affected residents, especially those in E block, said the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) has turned a blind eye to this menace.

Arvind Sharma, a resident of the colony, has raised the issue of blocking roads in the colony – first by installation of illegal gates and now, by putting barricades in a complaint to the Chief Minister, Principal Secretary, Director of Local Bodies, Chief Vigilance Officer of the Local Government Department and LIT chairman.

Amarjit Singh and Balraj Chopra said a section of residents were behind putting barricades on the roads to harass people who had raised their voice against illegal gates in the colony.

They alleged that the area around the closed gates was being used for parking vehicles and playing outdoor games.

“The idea behind putting barricades seems to keep other residents at bay and use part of the roads as a personal property,” said the aggrieved residents and demanded that the LIT should take stern action against the violators.
