Ludhiana, February 13

Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal inspected the working of the 225 MLD sewerage treatment plant (STP) in Jamalpur on Tuesday. After finding Buddha Dariya’s water with a reading of 174 TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) near the Jaiswal complex (outside the MC’s jurisdiction) on Tajpur road — which is considered ‘good’ for drinking — he expressed his satisfaction. The MP said such results can be achieved at each point along the stream, which is of historic and religious importance.

However, within the Ludhiana MC limits, the nullah is heavily polluted. Conducting an inspection along the Buddha Dariya on Tajpur road, Seechewal directed the authorities to take strict action against those caught polluting the stream, whether they are industries, dairy owners or any other entity.

He appreciated the results of the STP in Jamalpur after inspecting the treated water there. He said that he’s not against the industry or dairy units, but the owners of such units should comply with the norms of the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
