Ludhiana, June 29

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest near Aarti Chowk here today against the recent “anti-farmer” policy of the Central Government.

Leaders and workers criticised a recent ordinance of the NDA government at the Centre and burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

General secretary of AAP Ahbaab Singh Grewal said the recent ordinance brought in by the government would destroy the already ailing agriculture sector by putting farmers at the mercy of big corporates, the sole aim of which was to earn profits.

“Along with the farmers, it will also destroy the rural economy as arhtiyas and other allied professions would also be pushed out of business. The ill-conceived policy is supported by the SAD as it is the part of the NDA government at the Centre,” he said.

“If Sukhbir Badal is actually worried about the plight of the farmers, he should immediately leave the NDA government and his wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal should resign from the Central Cabinet. But, they want to enjoy the power while shedding crocodile tears for the farmers. The party will never allow such injustice with the farmers. We demand that the policy be revoked at the earliest,” he said.
