896 take part in trials for 4th Khelo India Youth Games

An overwhelming number of players turned up for selection trials conducted by the Punjab Sports Department at Guru Nanak Stadium here today. The trials were organised to select players for the upcoming 4th Khelo India Youth Games.

Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, said a total of 896 aspirants (766 boys and 130 girls) appeared for trials in four sports disciplines - basketball, kabaddi, handball and football.

A total of 421 players (boys) turned up for football, while 185 boys appeared for kabaddi. As many as 50 boys and 50 girls attended the trials for basketball, while 110 boys appeared for handball.

“The selected players will represent Punjab in the games to be organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, with the assistance of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The games are scheduled to be held from February 2 to 14 next year,” said Singh.
