81 fresh cases, 3 fall prey to Covid in Ludhiana

Eightyone persons today tested positive for Covid, while three lost their lives to the virus, which included two men and a woman.

Ten patients were on ventilator support, out of whom three were from Ludhiana district and seven from other districts.

Those who lost their lives included an 83-year-old man from Nirmal Nagar Dugri who was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension. A 73-year-old man from Shimlapuri also succumbed today and had co-morbidity of diabetes, hypertension and coronary artery disease.

A 56-year-old woman from Model Town also lost her life today. She was admitted to Deep Hospital and had co-morbidity.

Out of the 81 persons who tested positive today, 13 were contacts of positive people, 12 were referred from OPDs, 42 were referred from flu corners, two were health care workers, while the tracing of 12 was in progress.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma today said that under the “Mission Fateh” of the Punjab Government, the number of coronavirus patients getting cured in Ludhiana district was increasing with each passing day. He said there were 780 active patients in the district at present and efforts were being made to keep people safe from Covid.

He said a total of 81 new patients from Ludhiana district had tested positive in the past 24 hours.

A total of 4,30,363 samples had been taken, out of which reports of 4,28,056 samples had been received, of which 4,03,021 samples were found negative, while the reports of 2,307 samples were pending. The total number of patients related to Ludhiana was 21,946.

The DC said now the total number of persons who had lost their lives included 879 persons from Ludhiana and 367 from other districts.

He added that till date, 49,238 persons had been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons was 1,649. Today, 121 persons were sent for home quarantine.

He said whenever the administration and the Health Department, Ludhiana, find out about any positive or suspected Covid-19 person, their samples were immediately sent for testing. Similarly, 3,070 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today.
