Ludhiana, June 10

A 45-year-old man along with his mother brutally hacked his 75-year-old father Sham Singh Anand to death at 221, C Block, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, on Tuesday night. The police have arrested both the suspects.

After killing the man last night, both suspects kept sitting near the body for the whole night. The same night the victim’s son, a suspect, called relatives in Ropar and told them, “We have finished Sham Singh”.

Satwant Singh, brother of the deceased said, those relatives could not reach city the same night to check, but they called many times on victim’s phone number, but to no avail.

Today morning, they informed Satwant and he immediately sent his nephew, who after reaching the house found it locked. The Sarabha Nagar police was called. When cops broke open the door, body of Sham Singh was found in the house. Both the suspects were also in the house sitting near the victim’s body. The duo reportedly attacked their kin with knife, who called the police at the house.

As per the police, initially some scuffle took place between the deceased and his wife Charanjit Kaur and son Jatinderpal, alias Babbu, following which the latter, who was said to be drug addict, hit Lord Krishna’s chariot on the victim’s head. Shockingly, Babbu continued to hit chariot on his father’s head till he was alive. After killing him, Babbu brought a knife and stabbed it into both eyes of the deceased. Both eyes of the victim reportedly came out in the attack. Victim’s throat was also slit and his head bore sharp injuries.

Deceased’s brother Satwant Singh said Sham Singh’s son was a drug addict. Sham Singh used to stop his son from taking drugs due to which the latter killed him, Satwant added.

Many times in the past too, both Babbu and his mother indulged in scuffles with the deceased because the latter was not giving money to the suspect to buy drugs. Surprisingly, wife of the deceased supported their son.

“A few days ago we had filed a complaint against Babbu with the police as he was threatening to finish his father, but no action was taken,” said Satwant Singh.

The deceased had retired from IFFCO as General Manager, North India.

The ACP (West), Sameer Verma, said son and wife of the deceased killed him. Primary reason behind murder was frequent scuffles between the deceased and his wife and son, the ACP added. It was yet not clear whether son of the deceased was a drug addict or not, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)said.
