Ludhiana: The surprise checking at Central Jail here on Tuesday led to the recovery of seven cell phones from jail inmates. After the recovery of phones, the Jail Department has launched a probe. A case under the Prison Act was registered against jail inmates Sohan Lal, Jagjit Singh, Baljinder Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Malkit Singh and Amandeep Singh. Assistant Jail Superintendent Sukhdev Singh said during surprise checking when belongings of the jail inmates were checked, seven mobile phones were recovered. Sukhdev Singh said the department would also conduct a probe to enquire the way these mobile phones reached the jail inmates. Despite the mobile phones being banned in jail, inmates continue to use the same. Many a times, probe was done to find out the role of some corrupt jail officials who might have connived with inmates and provided them cell phones, but guilty jail officials were hardly caught. TNS
