Ludhiana, January 14

Even after notices were served on different political parties for displaying unauthorised advertisements, a number of political advertisements are still displayed on buildings on Gill Road, near Link Road flyover and other areas of the Atam Nagar constituency.

A total of 63 notices have been served on different political parties for violating the model code of conduct, maximum for unauthorised political advertisements, in the past three days. Posters of the Congress, Lok Insaaf Party, AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal have been displayed at various sites in the constituency.

On Friday (January 14), 26 notices were served on political parties in the Atam Nagar constituency. Of them, 13 notices were issued to the Congress, eight to the Aam Aadmi Party, three to the Lok Insaaf Party and two to the Shiromani Akali Dal for violating the model code of conduct. On January 13, six notices were served on the Congress and two on the Lok Insaaf Party in the Atam Nagar constituency.

According to information, 29 notices were served on different political parties for installing unauthorised political advertisements by violating the model code of conduct on January 12. Of them, 14 notices were sent to the Congress, 11 to the Lok Insaaf Party, three to the Aam Aadmi Party and one to the Shiromani Akali Dal. All these complaints were made on the cVIGIL app.

A resident said, “Most of the political advertisements are being displayed on the buildings along main roads. It should be checked whether these are authorised or unauthorised. The responsibility of building owners should also be fixed. The authorities concerned must take action against those violating the model code of conduct by displaying unauthorised political advertisements.”

People can lodge their complaints regarding the violation of the model code of conduct through a toll-free number, 1950. The Election Commission of India has introduced a ‘cVIGIL’ app for effective implementation of the model code of conduct.
