54-yr-old loses battle for life in Ludhiana

Jagraon ADC tests positive, admitted to pvt medical college

One Covid-19 patient lost his life while 48 more tested positive for the disease today, which include the ADC, Jagraon, Neetu Katyal Gupta.

The deceased was 54-year-old man from Lohara Road. He was admitted to Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer Hospital yesterday evening and died in the morning today. According to hospital sources, the patient was admitted to hospital in a critical condition and could not survive. With this, the total number of deaths from the Ludhiana district have reached 28.

On June 21, brother of the deceased had also lost his life. He was also Covid-19 patient and admitted to SPS Hospital.

Meanwhile, after ADC (G) and SDM, Khanna, now the ADC, Jagraon, Neeru Katyal Gupta, has tested positive for coronavirus. She is the fifth high-ranking official from Ludhiana to have tested positive for the disease.

Khanna SDM Sandeep Singh’s 36-year-old wife and 68-year-old mother have also tested positive for the virus. They have been home quarantined. Meanwhile, wife and children of ADC (G) tested negative for Covid.

So far, ADC (G) Amarjit Bains, Khanna SDM Sandeep Singh, DCP (Law and order) Ashwani Kapoor and ACP (North) Anil Kohli have tested positive for the virus from Ludhiana. ACP (North) died fighting the virus on April 18.

Yesterday, ADC (G) Amarjit Bains and Khanna SDM Sandeep had tested positive after which nearly 15 officials from the district administration were asked to home quarantine themselves. Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner tested negative for the virus yesterday.

Yesterday, samples of 42 people were collected from the district administration and meritorious school where ADC (G) was on duty apart from their close contacts, including family members.

The residence of the ADC, Jagron, on Mall Road has been sealed and her family members have been asked to isolate themselves. She is presently admitted to the DMCH.

Those who tested positive, include a 64-year-old male and his 34-year-old son, both doctors from Khanna and a 37-year-old male healthcare worker from Ludhiana.

A 19-year-old pregnant woman from Khanna and those with influenza like illness, who tested positive, include 29-year-old male from Ajit Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, 60-year-old male and 60-year-old female from Dehlon, 53-year-old male from New Shakti Nagar, 71-year-old male from Kot Alamgir and 58-year-old female from EWS Colony.

Among others, who tested positive for the virus, include eight from Bhamian village, five from Khanan, four from Cheema Chowk, two from Teka Mohalla and Dehlon and one each from Jamalpur, Tajpur, Janakpuri, Muradpura, Sanhewal, Aalamgir, EWS Colony, Janta Nagar, Millergunj, New Model Town, Daba-Lohara Road, new Kundanpuri, Guru Gobind Nagar, Mall Road and old Madhopuri.

Charges for Covid-19 test revised

As per the recent government guidelines, charges for the Covid-19 RT PCR test have now been fixed at Rs2,500 per test. No private medical college or hospital can fix its own rate structure for the coronavirus testing.“Earlier, charges for the Covid-19 RT PCR test at all private hospitals were Rs4,500 while OPD patients at government hospitals paid Rs2,500, Now, charges are applicable as per the recent government guidelines,” said Prem Kumar Gupta, secretary, DMCH managing society.
