Doraha, February 24

The state government has decided to construct a Civil Hospital in Doraha with an estimate cost of Rs 8.5 crore. Ludhiana Tribune had highlighted the lack of health facilities for the needy in the town numerous times.

Payal MLA Lakhvir Singh Lakha, who had raised the issue during the ongoing Assembly session, got a positive response from Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.

He said Rs 8.5 crore would be spent on constructing the hospital and tenders for the same have been submitted and would be opened on March 25.

“The drawing for the same was cleared by the Health Minister long ago. Now, the final nod has been given,” he said.

“The town is situated on the national highway. Accident victims suffer due to lack of state-of-the-art medical facilities,” said Lakha.

“Initially, I raised the demand for constructing a 25-bed hospital. Former Health Minister Brahm Mohindra had announced a grant of Rs 20 crore to set up the hospital and a trauma centre. Keeping in mind the enormous contribution of late CM Beant Singh, Capt Amarinder Singh declared that a 50- bed hospital will be built in Doraha.” he said.

Doraha Municipal Council president Bant Singh Daburjee and vice-president Rajveer Singh Rubal, among others, thanked MLA Lakha.
