Ludhiana, June 14
To mark World Blood Donor Day, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik inaugurated a blood donation camp at Red Cross Society, Ludhiana, in which 40 units of blood were collected. Presiding over the event, the DC described blood donation as the real service of humanity as it could save millions of lives.
DC Surabhi Malik said blood donors were the real heroes as they play a key role in helping the people in need. She said more and more people, especially the youngsters, should come forward to donate blood and become active partners in this noble cause.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, organised a camp over 100 donors donated blood.
Dr Sandeep Puri, Prinicpal, DMCH, highlighted that donating blood helps create new blood cells, reduces risk of heart attack and liver ailment, lowers cholesterol and even slows down ageing. Dr Amarjit Kaur, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, stressed on the need to promote blood donation.
