Ludhiana, January 23

Special task force (STF) of Ludhiana has nabbed four drug smugglers and recovered 2.20 kg of heroin from their possession. The police have also impounded their car.

The AIG of STF, Snehdeep Sharma, and STF in-charge Harbans Singh conducted a press conference after the arrests.

The suspects have been identified as Jagdev Singh Jaggi (32), Parminder Singh Minna (30), of Doraha; Sonu Ghalot (29) and Harpreet Singh (24) of Sahenwal. One of their aides Mandeep Singh Mika (30) of Doraha escaped.

Sharma said the police got a tip-off that smugglers were on the way to deliver a consignment of drugs to their clients in Ludhiana. Accordingly, a naka was set up and a car, in which the suspects were travelling, was signalled to stop.

While four occupants of the car were nabbed, their accomplice Mika fled the scene.

Sharma said the heroin was hidden beneath the driver’s seat in a bag along with an electronic weighing machine.

During preliminary questioning, Parminder and Jagdev said they were brothers and they started smuggling drugs to become rich in a short span of time. The brothers, otherwise farmers, were already facing cases of drug smuggling.

The STF officials said they would seek police remand of the suspects from the court to bust the entire drug supply line.
