39 more test positive for coronavirus in Ludhiana, one death reported

Ludhiana, June 17

A 65-year-old man from Basti Jodhewal succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday. The deceased was admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) yesterday. He died on Tuesday afternoon. With this, the total number of deaths from the disease in Ludhiana district has gone up to 13.

“The patient was having difficulty in breathing and fever from last five days. He was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday and tested positive for Covid. Later, he died in the afternoon,” said Dr Ashwani Chaudhary, MS, DMCH.

Meanwhile, 39 more Covid-19 positive cases have emerged in Ludhiana. In all, 1,042 samples were sent to the GMC, Patiala, for testing and all reports were received. Out of these, 35 persons tested positive for the disease while 1,006 were negative. One sample has been sent for repeat testing. Other four positive cases were reported from the DMCH. Now, there are 39 positive cases in the district.

These positive cases include 15-year-old female, seven-year-old female and five-year-old male from Mayur Vihar Colony, Humbran Road. These are the family members of already positive patient from Mayur Vihar. A 47-year-old female from Khanna is a case of influenza like illness (ILI).

Meanwhile, 44-year-old male, 20-year-old male, 21-year-old male, 17-year-old male, 14-year-old male, five-year-old male and 38-year-old female, who tested Covid positive, are from the Chhavani Mohalla containment zone.

Another 30-year-old male, 36-year-old female and six-year-old female, suffering from the disease, are also from the containment zone of Chhavani Mohalla. They are family members of already positive patient from Chhavani Mohalla.

A 25-year-old female, nine-year-old female, 24-year-old female, 26- year-old male, 40-year-old male, 24-year-old female, 49-year-old male, 13-year-old female and 50-year-old female from Sehnsi Mohalla have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

Besides, 40-year-old male, 15-year-old female, 20-year-old female, 18- year-old male, 35-year-old male, 22-year-old female, 26-year-old female, 46-year-old female and 18-year-old female, tested Covid positive, are from the containment zone of Habibganj.

Apart from these, efforts are being made to trace 13-year-old male from Amarpura, 25-year-old male from Talwandi Rai and another 13-year-old female. Sadly, most of the positive cases are now that of children.

New Model Town is mini containment zone

New Model Town has been declared mini containment Zone. According to the new policy, the area from where five or more cases are reported is declared mini containment zone. An eight member committee will be formed to review the situation of the zone. Yesterday, a senior resident from the DMCH had tested Covid positive and his contact tracing was going on.

Panic in Janta Nagar, New Janta Nagar areas

Ever since 10 cases were reported from New Janta Nagar, panic has gripped the area. Jaswinder Singh Thukral, president Janta Nagar Industry Association, told The Tribune that these 10 positive cases were from one particular ‘vehra’. There were plenty of such ‘vehras’ in the area where more than six persons lived in a single small room, he added.

“But thankfully, half of the labour has gone back to their native places and many vehras are empty or are not fully occupied. Had there been more migrants, situation could have been worse,” he said.

Two cases from Pathankot, Mandi Ahmedgarh

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old male patient, who had come from Pathankot, another 26-year-old, who had come from Mandi Ahmedgarh, tested positive for the coronavirus at the DMCH.
