306 test +ve for Covid, 9 lose battle to disease in Ludhiana

Covid-19 claimed nine more lives during the past 24 hours in Ludhiana district. Besides, 306 new coronavirus cases were also reported from the district.

Those who died, include a 55-year-old man from Dholewal, a 40-year-old man from Jamalpur, a 55-year-old man from Dugri, a 54-year-old man from Friends Colony, a 61-year-old man from Kohara, a 57-year-old woman from Jammu Colony, a 45-year-old woman from Surjit Nagar, a 83-year-old man from Kidwai Nagar and a 41-year-old man from Field Ganj. 

“Till date, 67,594 samples have been collected out of which report of 65,363 samples has been received. As many as 60,762 samples are negative and report of 2,131 is pending,” the DC said.

“Now, the total number of Covid patients in Ludhiana district is 4,176 while 525 patients are from other districts/states,” the DC added.

“Unfortunately, nine patients from Ludhiana district lost their lives today. Now, the total number of persons, who died due to Covid, include 129 from Ludhiana district and 41 from other districts,” the DC said.

“In all, 306 coronavirus positive patients are from Ludhiana district, 138 are from Ludhiana (West) tehsil, 137 from Ludhiana (East) tehsil, 16 from Khanna tehsil, seven from Jagraon tehsil, five from Payal tehsil and three from Samrala tehsil,” the DC added.

According to the information, 75 patients (who have influenza like illness) visited flu corner, 87 patients came in contact of already Covid positive patients, 35 visited OPD, five were cops, nine were from the high-risk areas, 11 were pregnant women, 19 healthcare workers, six domestic travellers, two undertrials, two pre-operative cases. Process is under way to trace remaining 55 patients.

Fix responsibility, says Cong leader

Sharing his concern over shortage of beds for Covid-19 infected patients in hospitals, Parminder Mehta, a Congress leader, has demanded from Chief Minister to fix responsibility of hospitals and government officials to ensure timely treatment for infected patients. He said, “Despite tall claims made by the district administration, many patients have died as they did not get timely treatment. I have requested Chief Minister to fix responsibility of hospitals, Civil Surgeon and Deputy Commissioner so that all coronavirus infected patients can get treatment on time.”
