Ludhiana, January 11

The Khanna police claimed to have busted a gang of criminals and arrested three of its members. The police also recovered three pistols of .32 bore and four magazines.

The suspects have been identified as Arshdeep Singh, alias Billa (23), Jagsir Singh, alias Ajay, and Deputy Sharma, alias Kanu (24), all residents of Baghapurana, Moga.

Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal and SP (Investigation) Pragya Jain addressed a press conference on Thursday.

SSP Kondal said a special drive was launched to nab criminals supplying weapons. Under the drive on January 9, CIA in-charge Inspector Amandeep Singh, anti-narcotics cell in-charge inspector Jagjiwan Ram along with police parties had arrested the suspects and seized weapons.

Kondal revealed that when a naka was laid, police officials saw three youths coming from the Mandi Gobindgarh side, who on seeing the police team, turned towards the Markfed Factory road. Following which, the officials chased and rounded them up.

During the investigation, it came to light that they bought weapons to settle personal enmity with members of a rival gang. However, due to prompt action by the Khanna police, they were nabbed. Further investigation was on to inquire about weapon suppliers of Madhya Pradesh from whom the trio bought the weapons.

The SSP said the suspects had a criminal past as Arshdeep had seven cases, including attempt-to- murder case and Jagsir had two cases, including a murder case. A case under the Arms Act was registered against them.
