25 schools, two colleges to get solar panels: Ashu

Ludhiana, May 25

Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu today informed that solar panels would be installed in 25 government schools and two government colleges under the Ludhiana Smart City project. He said these schools and colleges would be fully powered by solar energy after the completion of the project.

Accompanied by Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu and officials, the minister visited Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Punjab Agricultural University, and took stock of ongoing projects, namely Sidhwan Canal Waterfront Project and Leisure Valley, BRS Nagar.

Ashu also informed that the work of installation of solar panels at Government Senior Secondary School, Haibowal Kalan, has begun from today. He said the total cost of the project is around Rs4.3 crore and 803 KW of energy would be produced from it. He stated the project will produce 10.50 lakh electricity units annually and save around Rs62 lakh every year. He informed that these solar panels have a life span of 25 years and the installation cost would be recovered within five years. — TNS
