The police have booked a youth of the Dehliz Road area and his unknown accomplice for allegedly killing their friend, a resident of Jagera Road. The badly decomposed body of the victim was found lying in bushes along the Bathinda branch of the Sirhind Canal on the outskirts of Jandali Kalan village, near here, on Tuesday, two days after he left his home on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Yuvraj Singh (17) of Jagera Road while the main suspect as Tahil, alias Kaku, of the Dehliz Road area.

The cause of rivalry and modus operandi of the murder are yet to be ascertained. No arrest has been made so far.

Surinder Singh of Jagera Road alleged that Tahil and his unknown accomplice had allegedly killed his son Yuvraj by strangulating or hitting on his head with some heavy object.

According to Surinder, Yuvraj and Tahil had gone to play volleyball on their motorcycle as usual on Sunday but Yuvraj failed to return home. It was on Tuesday that Yuvraj’s parents came to know that the police have kept an unidentified body for identification at a mortuary of the Civil Hospital, Malerkotla. On identification, it was found to be that of Yuvraj. The Ahmedgarh Sadar police had recovered the body from the bushes near Railway Bridge at the Bathinda branch of the Sirhind Canal.

SHO Sanjiv Kapoor said Tahil and his unknown accomplice had been booked under Section 302 and the police had started raiding hideouts of the suspects.

Though the exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem, circumstantial evidence suggested that the suspects had strangulated the victim with a piece of cloth before hitting him on head. The police recovered a motorcycle and a mobile phone of the victim.
