2 minor sisters drown in Sutlej near Machhiwara

Ludhiana, August 17

Two sisters drowned in the Sutlej near Machhiwara yesterday. The duo along with their friends had gone to take bath in the river but got drowned. The deceased have been identified as Lalita (15) and Shivani (12).

As per the deceased girls’ father Sunil, he and his wife are labourers. Yesterday when they left for work, their daughters along with other locality children went to take bath in the Sutlej.

He said while bathing, the two girls got swept away in the current. Other children raised alarm and called the villagers. Before the villagers could come, the girls had drowned. Their bodies were fished out. The family performed their last rites.
