Ludhiana: The police have arrested two liquor smugglers and recovered 114 bottles of liquor from them. Amit Singh was arrested from Jalandhar Bypass at a police naka after seven cases of Crazy Romeo Rum were recovered from his car. He has been booked under sections 61/78(2)/1/14 of the Excise Act. Ashok Kumar, a resident of Punjabi Bagh, Tibba Road, was arrested while he was selling liquor at a park in EWS Colony. The police recovered 30 bottles of country liquor and booked him under sections 61/1/14 of the Excise Act. OC

Department store burgled at Dugri

Ludhiana: Thieves broke into a department store in Guru Gian Vihar, Dugri, on the night of July 4 and decamped with Rs 15,000 lying in the cash box. The owner of the shop, Raman Aggarwal, a resident of Akal Aaasra, Ferozepur Road, said he had gone home on the night of July 4 after locking his shop. Around 3.45 am, the owner of a nearby shop informed him that the shutter of his shop had been broken. The police have registered a case under sections 457 and 380, IPC. OC

3 held for Covid violations

Ludhiana: The police have arrested Sandeep Singh, a resident of Nandpuri on Noorwala Road, from Basant Vihar; Asa Nand, owner of Jammu Pooriwala, from Sudan Mohalla on Daresi Road; and Surinder Kumar, owner of Dalipa Pooriwala, from Mali Ganj for violation of restrictions imposed under the COVID-19 lockdown. Cases under sections 188, 269 and 270, IPC, section 3 of the Epidemics Act and section 52 of the Disaster Management Act have been slapped on the violators. OC

Neighbour rapes Minor girl

Ludhiana: The police have booked Rishikesh, a resident of Chaudhry Colony in Moti Nagar, under sections 376 and 506 of the IPC and section 3 of POCSO Act for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in the neighbourhood on Sunday night. Her father said he and his family members were sleeping on the rooftop. Around 11.30 pm, he noticed that his daughter was not in her bed. "I went downstairs and found my daughter in the room of the suspect. My daughter told me that the suspect raped her and threatened her that he would kill her if she raised the alarm," said the complainant. OC
