The SHO, Police Division No. 5, Neeraj Chaudhary, said on Friday night a special naka was laid at the Bharat Nagar chowk to check suspected vehicles.

A Scorpio was signalled to stop at the naka. An occupant sitting beside the driver stepped out of the SUV and started arguing with the police, the SHO said.

Then they accelerated the vehicle and fled, but a bag slipped out from the hand of the man sitting beside the driver and fell on the road. When the police checked the bag, the cash was recovered from it,” the SHO added.

The SHO said, “On the basis of the vehicle number, its ownership detail will be obtained. Once the owner is identified, only then the purpose of carrying Rs 17.90 lakh in the SUV can be found.”
