15 more succumb, death toll 426 in Ludhiana

Today, 214 people tested positive for Covid and 15 patients succumbed to the virus in the district. The deceased include 11 men and four women.

The number of positive persons has gone to 10,436 and the death toll to 426. As many as 9,260 cases and 380 deaths are from Ludhiana urban while the rest are from Jagraon, Raikot, Samrala, Khanna and Payal. In the rural region, Jagraon has logged the highest cases at 364 and Khanna has the highest deaths at 15.

All but two patients were in the age group of 50-70 years. Five patients died at the DMCH and they belonged to Udham Singh Nagar, Punjab Mata Nagar, Preet Nagar, Payal and Khanna. One patient each was admitted to the CMCH, SPS Hospital, Mahal Hospital, Oswal Hospital and the Civil Hospital. Two patients each succumbed at Bhagwan Ram Charitable Hospital and RHP Hospital.

Most patients had comorbid conditions such as hypertension, coronary artery ailment and diabetes.

Of 214 patients testing positive today, 83 cases were reported from flu corners, 44 from OPDs and 28 were identified during contact tracing. The fresh infections include five healthcare workers.

Appeal to residents

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, has appealed to the people of the city to immediately go to the nearest Covid testing centre and get their test done without any delay, and these tests are being done free of cost at the government testing centres. He said if the disease was detected at the earliest, then it could be controlled to a large extent.

Cases likely to peak in 4 weeks of Sept: DC

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma appealed to the people of the city to understand their moral responsibility and not to engage in any social activities in September, such as birthdays, weddings etc as the Covid pandemic was likely to reach its peak in the four weeks of September. He said this would keep them safe and help them to keep themselves safe.
