15 mobiles seized from jail inmates in surprise checks

A surprise checking conducted at the Central Jail, Ludhiana, led to the seizure of 15 mobile phones from jail inmates in two raids.

Assistant superintendent of jail Surinderpal Singh said on January 7, he, along with jail staff, conducted a surprise checking in the jail. Belongings of the inmates was thoroughly checked and even suspicious persons were also frisked. During the checking, nine mobile phones were recovered from four inmates, Vishal Sharma, Karamjit Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Amarpal Singh. A case under the Prisons Act was yesterday registered against the inmates and further investigation was launched by the police to inquire about sources that facilitated the delivery of the phones inside the jail.

Assistant superintendent of jail Harbans Singh said on January 9, he along with his team conducted a surprise checking in the jail which led to the recovery of six mobile phones from five inmates. They were identified as Sandeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Kamamljit Singh, Jaswant Singh and Amandeep Singh. A case under the Prisons Act was registered against them by the police on Saturday.

Notably, the seizure of mobile phones from the inmates of the Central jail has become a routine affair. Even several videos of jail inmates had also gone viral in social media in the past. Recently after a video of criminals lodged at the Central Jail went viral, two senior jail officials were arrested by the Ludhiana police.
