13 fatalities, 307 fresh infections in Ludhiana

Most of the deceased had co-morbidities

Today, 307 people tested positive for Covid and 13 lost their lives to the virus. The number of positive patients in the district has gone to 11,784 and that of deaths to 499. Thirty patients were on ventilator support at various hospitals. Meanwhile, the Civil Hospital has got two ventilators which will become operational in a day or two. At present, there are 102 ventilators in private hospitals, of which four ventilators installed at the CMCH have been provided by the government.

Patients coming to Civil Hospital are either referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital or the CMCH. In March, a patient from Amarpura was referred to the Patiala hospital by the doctors at the Civil Hospital as she was in need of ventilator. She, however, died in Patiala next morning. After this incident, four ventilators lying unused at Civil Hospital for want of technical staff were shifted to the CMCH.

The nodal officer of Level II government isolation facility, Dr Hatinder Kaur, said they had received two new ventilators.

“We will make these operational in a day or two. The staff underwent training at CMCH in March and now, they can operate these ventilators,” she said.

Meanwhile, those who lost their lives to Covid include nine men and four women. The deceased were from Giaspura, Manakwal Enclave, Kabrana, Mall Road, Prem Nagar, Khanna, New Subhash Nagar, Sherpur Kalan, Haibowal, BRS Nagar, Parkash Nagar, Subhash Nagar and Kanech. They had co-morbidities such as hypertension, fungal sepsis, heart disease and liver problems.

With regard to fresh infections, 104 cases were referred from flu corners, 70 by contact-tracing teams and 56 were reported from OPDs.
