12 more succumb to virus in Ludhiana

10 policemen among 332 contract infection

Today, 332 persons tested positive for Covid while 12 lost their lives to the virus in the district. The death toll of Ludhiana has reached 646 and the number of positive patients 15,704. Thirtysix patients were on ventilator support.

Those who lost their lives include a 40-year-old man from Dugri, a 91-year-old man, a 54-year-old man and a 46-year-old man from Haibowal Kalan, a 72-year-old man from Basti Jodhewal, a 55-year-old man from New Deep Nagar, a 68-year-old man from Civil Lines, a 55-year-old man from Maloud, a 50-year-old man from Harcharan Nagar, a 51-year-old woman from Rishi Nagar, a 69-year-old man from Ayali Kalan and a 65-year-old man from Sector 32.

Of 332 fresh infections, 101 were referred from flu corners and 92 from OPDs. Thirtyfive were contacts of positive persons. The persons testing positive include 10 policemen, 12 healthcare workers, one pregnant woman, one pre-operative case and one traveller.

Today, 379 people were placed under home quarantine.

“Today, more than 5,000 samples were collected. People should come forward for testing. No prescription is required and testing is done free of cost at government hospitals,” said the Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga.

251 cops give samples

On the second day, as many as 251 personnel of the Ludhiana Police Commissionerate gave samples for Covid testing. Of 300 policemen who gave samples for rapid testing yesterday, the reports of 12 had come positive. Today, the samples were collected for the RT- PCR test and reports would arrive in two days. The Ludhiana Commissionerate has around 5,000 personnel.
