Meanwhile, panic gripped residents of the Durgapuri area after it was declared a containment zone. The area from gali number 1 to 19 was sealed after 17 cases and one death were reported from the area.

The police asked the shopkeepers to put up shutters and sealed the entrances to the area.

A local resident said they learnt two days ago that the area had been declared a containment zone but it was only today that the department sealed the street.

Earlier, residents from other containment zones had complained that no restrictions were being ensured in their areas.

A senior official from the Health Department said they had sealed the area for 14 days and the local residents had been placed under quarantine. “Only essential services will be allowed and nobody will be allowed to move out of his house,” he said.
