Ludhiana, May 21

Around 250 registrations have been made by persons who are willing to return to Ludhiana from abroad. The district administration is expecting around 1,000 persons from foreign countries, some of them with their families.

A majority of registrations have been made from Dubai, the US, Canada, Australia and the UAE.

Sanyam Aggarwal, Nodal Officer for Covid, Ludhiana, said upon their arrival, all persons would be screened as per the Covid protocol, and if anyone was found symptomatic, his sample would be taken immediately. The samples of asymptomatic persons would be taken after their 14-day quarantine period, either in a private hotel or at a government facility. He said those testing positive for Covid-19 would be shifted either to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, or the Mother and Child Hospital near Vardhman.

Aggarwal said persons would be sent to their respective homes only on the completion of their 14-day quarantine period. The government facilities where these persons can stay are Parker House and Kairon Kisan Ghar, both situated on the Punjab Agricultural University campus, for which Rs 500 and Rs 300 per day/single occupancy, respectively, will be charged. This will include three meals daily.

The district administration has tied up with two-star and five-star hotels where these people can stay on a payment basis. The charges of private hotels start from Rs 1,300 per day for single occupancy, including food.

Rooms can be shared by two persons if they belong to the same family. Around 20 hotels with 800 rooms have registered with the administration in Ludhiana to date.
