Love for mother tongue drives this TV actress to Pollywood

A young actress from the city, Shefali Sharma, is keen on giving back to her mother tongue through her skills.

Shefali is eager to work in the Punjabi film industry. Her latest movie 'Tu Mera Ki Lagda' was released on December 6. It was her strong attachment with her mother tongue, which drove her to Pollywood. She began her career in 2013 with television serial Bani — Ishq Da Kalma.

“I am very attached to my mother tongue. Punjabi songs were a respite during my initial days in Mumbai. There is something magical about the language. Showcasing my talent in my mother tongue is a moment of pride for me,” Shefali said.

Being a proud Punjabi, she is glad that people of the city have earned name and fame.

"Punjabis across the globe are talented, but people of the holy city are more talented. They have created a niche for themselves with their immense hard work,” Shefali said.

The actress feels that the television medium has evolved for better over the years, it has become more professional and there must be certain censorship on digital platforms. “The platform has changed for better over the years. It has evolved swiftly. The level of professionalism has gone up. The advent of digital space offers variety to the audience, but there must be certain guidelines for better content.”

The Diya Aur Baati Hum actor is willing to experiment her acting skills in the regional cinema and is glad to see scripts and movies being made at present. In the past, she has also been active in theatre in the city.
