Liquor smuggler attacks cop in Gurugram, held

A police team of the crime unit, Sector 10, was attacked by liquor smugglers late Sunday night, while trying to flee from nakas.

A constable was thrashed brutally, however, the police nabbed the key accused in the wee hours on Monday. An FIR was registered at Badshahpur police station. The accused was produced in court and the police have taken him on one-day police remand. As many as 50 cartons of illicit liquor were recovered from the spot.

According to the police, they received a tip-off and a team headed by Sub Inspector Harmesh set up a barricade at Sohna Road in search of liquor smuggler Ashok. When the cops signalled to stop a TUV, the vehicle driver fled towards Badshahpur. The cops intercepted the vehicle and finally chased it at Teekli Road, where the car driver took the vehicle towards a street, where he and his father attacked the cops with sticks.

“Car driver Ashok hit constable Satbir with a stick hurling abuses. He also slapped him and broke the pane of our vehicle. We somehow nabbed the accused, but his father Tularam came and attacked us. When we tried to nab him, he managed to flee. Ashok is a resident of Badshahpur. He revealed that he was a smuggler of illicit liquor and 50 cartons of liquor were recovered from his car,” Sub-Inspector Harmesh said in his complaint.

An FIR was registered under Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public function), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant), 34 (common intention) of the IPC and 61-1-14 of the Excise Act at Badshahpur police station.

“We are questioning the liquor smuggler. His other accomplices will be arrested soon and we hope more recovery will be made,” said Inspector Jitender Yadav, head of crime unit, Sector 10.
