In times as grim as these, good music is like a soothing balm for the soul. We take a look at the hits in the past six months, which kept the audience entertained during lockdown days.

Sequel time

Punjabi artistes have enough content to come out with sequels of songs, which have become as popular as the original tracks! After two months of the song Titliaan, which has Afsana Khan’s melodious voice, and features Harrdy Sandhu and Sargun Mehta, came the sequel Titliaan Warga, featuring lyricist Jaani and the voice of Harrdy Sandhu. Impress 2 by Ranjit Bawa (Desi Crew) too was liked by the audience while Amrinder Gill’s sequel album, Judaa 3, will be released soon.

Girl gang

For Baani Sandhu’s Bell Bottom, Majhe Wale and Agg Att Koka Kehar to Afasana Khan’s Kamaal Karte Ho, female singers are rocking. Nimrat Khaira’s Sira E Hou and Time Chakda have become quite a rage with listeners too.

Great talent

The industry is supportive of young talent and the audience has been equally welcoming in making stars out of them! After all, we get to see young artistes like Sidhu Moosewala and Karan Aujla making their mark in their teens. Making groovy and popular music is not child’s play, yet the one who is ruling these days is The Kidd!

With his real name being Gagandeep Singh, his stage name was a result of his age (22 years) among the seasoned players. He started making music from the age of 15 and got noticed for making futuristic music, which was not attempted by his contemporaries, in the song Black Veere. Soon, he got to work with other popular singers likes of Rohanpreet and Sidhu Moosewala. “I believe Punjabi industry is giving more hits and chartbusters because they support talent, irrespective of age and where it is coming from,” says the Clash (hit song from Diljit’s album G.O.A.T) music producer. His first studio album, Moosetape, is Sidhu Moosewala’s biggest collaboration with 30 songs. Already making headlines, he adds, “It was challenging to produce an entire album myself in such a short span of time. Big artistes of Punjab are under immense pressure to keep the entertainment quotient high.”

Another artiste, Jassa Dhillon’s Talja, released a month ago, has crossed 97 million views. Been around since 2019, he has released a few songs till now. AP Dhillon’s Brown Munde has become an international rage too. The Kidd says, “AP Dhillon has changed the game entirely and brought a different vibe through his music.”

Punjabi singer B Praak, who had recently won the National Award for Best Male Singer, released the song Mazaa, penned by Jaani. The song with 85 million views is doing quite well and its sequel is also likely to come our way!

Foreign influence

Karan Aujla’s Mexico Koka brings the vibes of Mexico to your homes in these tough times. Meanwhile, Sidhu has collaborated with foreign singers, Bohemia, Tion Wayne and Stefflon Don, in his latest album. His song Moosedrilla, featuring Indian rapper Divine, was released two weeks ago.
