Trupti Khamkar, who will be seen in MX Player and Alt Balaji’s series Girgit, which is set to premiere today, talks about her role

Show comments

What is your role in Girgit?

I am playing a character named Mahi, who is a con-girl. Along with her best friend, Shyamoli, they do a lot of illegal stuff. We are partners in crime and we love each other!

What is your take on OTT content?

OTT is a blessing for us and for the audience as well. I have been doing theatre since 1998 and was somehow never keen on doing a TV show. So, actors like me have found a mid-way between films and television.

How has your family reacted to your profession?

I belong to a Maharashtrian family and my parents are retired bankers. Initially, I had to convince them a lot for my acting career. And I also had to finish my studies in management. After that I enrolled myself in post-graduate course in theatre. My parents are quite liberal and all they wanted me is to be independent.

It’s been over two decades for you in the industry. What are the things you want to do now?

The hunger is to go on with the same passion and do good roles. I want to do roles that will challenge me. When I look back, I feel I am lucky to be mentored by the great late Nirmal Pandey. I have also learnt from famous voice coach Ashok Ranade.

What are your forthcoming projects?

One-to-oneI have acted in the first Marathi zombie film titled Zombivli, whose release we are all eagerly waiting for. And then I have a Dharma film that I have shot for.
