In this season of fragrance, beauty and blooming flowers, the fashion trends are all things fun too. Spring is the time to experiment and let your imagination go wild. In this very first season of the year, which brings vibrant colours to the forefront, you can be the most fashionable dresser in your group with this comprehensive guide to the most important trends of 2021.

All about comfort

Ready with the fashion forecast, Pallavi Singhee of Verb believes spring is all about melting the desirable with the wearable. And this time around, she says, all things vintage will make a comeback. “Coined in quarantine, spring is about comfort, luxe, happy clothing celebrating life, intimacy, love. So, be ready to include avantgarde drapes, fitted waists, big bouffant sleeves, old romantic collars, sweetheart necklines.”

Signs of life

When it comes to defining the stapes for this weather, Reby Jindal of GUAPA associates spring with rebirth. “There’s sunshine, there are flowers and signs of life and growth are blossoming in every corner. For me, some staple looks would be sundresses, a white shirt and a denim skirt, etc. But some of the must-haves this season include dresses, co-ord sets, joggers, skirts etc.”

Adding to the mood is Mallika Tomar of House of Tomar whose inspiration for this year’s collection is social media. Mallika says, “Referring to social media, the first word that comes to mind is anxiety. Society has become familiar to anxiety disorder as social media has become quotidian activity of life. Our collection focuses on four concept inspired prints, including scroll print, FOMO print, adrenaline and OCD print. Breezy, flowy and lightweight fabrics with rich feel such as viscose, shantung, organza, etc, that make you stand out with layers, drop shoulders and more of such elements.”

We’ve been well-versed with functional fashion, thanks to Covid-19 that made work-from-home a norm. Thus multitude of designs that can be worn on a holiday and when you’re home are a must, opines Reby as she adds, “Comfort in clothing has taken precedence over everything else due to the pandemic. Playful prints and colours are at the focus of this season’s collection and all designs are very versatile and can be easily dressed up or down.”

Colour me right

As far as the colour palette is concerned, other than the inspiration from the hues surrounding us, Mallika says, “Aqua blue, firelight red, mellow yellow, bride jade and purple dusk are linked to happiness, optimism creativity and have a calming effect. These uplifting tones shout to be seen and stand out this spring.”

With the vaccination bringing new life and hope, Pallavi adds, “Warm greens, orangey reds, peachy pinks and every shade of light brown from tan to palest beige will be a hit during this time of the year.”

If we are talking about colours, colour blocking a trend that tops it all, can’t be left behind. There are some tips these designers share. While Reby says, “It is easier to colour block the same tones of colour than it is to colour block contrasting colours. In the same family of colours, go for a lighter and darker version to colour block.” However, Pallavi has a pro-tip in colour blocking with prints. “It’s ideal to team prints it with a solid. While on the other hand, if experimenting with strong colours, it’s beautiful to team them with lace and femme crop tops.”

All for accessories

No look is complete without accessories and the best way to accessorise is to first find a focal point of dressing, explains Pallavi. “For instance, if we are doing solids and only silhouettes, then it’s best to team it with a statement accessory like a big necklace, or large statement earrings/rings. If the outfit is the focal point, like a nice ruffle blouse or maybe big mamma jeans, then it’s nice to team them with accessories that help complete the look, like big large hoops, a beautiful waist bag and nice shoes to go with depending on the occasion.”
