Was acting a natural progression from modelling?

As a child, I was a fan of Govinda, Urmila Matondkar and Karisma Kapoor. I used to watch films of Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini. My mom used to tell me that actors like Rajesh Khanna are no more, but his films would always be with us. And that is one reason that attracted me towards acting.

What inspired you to participate in a beauty pageant?

Icons like Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen. I wanted to follow in their footsteps.

You worked with Imtiaz Ali recently in Love Aaj Kal 2. Tell us about your experience.

I have a habit of writing a diary and I had written in my diary that one day I would work with Imtiaz Ali. And that’s exactly what happened. Last year, I got a call from him asking me to meet him. It was a dream come true. I actually made a card for him, which I gave him on the sets!

What prompted you to work in Manphodganj Ki Binny?

When I first went for the audition, I had no idea what my role would be. But during the audition, I got to know about Binny. I went with an open mind for the audition and eventually I ended up loving the character.

How did you prepare for the role?

For the role of Binny, I had to learn a lot of things about acting and dialect. I come from Army background, and so my upbringing is completely different from Binny’s. It was challenging for me to play her. I worked extra hard to make Binny Bajpei come alive on screen.

Who has been your role model?

Priyanka Chopra for the way she has established herself—from winning a pageant to conquering the world, which is commendable!

What is your focus now as an actor?

Web series and films are my focus now. I would like to work with top directors. And working with Leonardo Di Caprio is my dream. I am mad about him!
