Summer bodies are made in winter, they say... Don’t let the cold weather muddle up your fitness goals. If you too need some inspiration to ditch the cozy bed and look away from the tempting winter treats, here are actors sharing how they make most of the season and keep fit.

Good response

I tend to put on weight during winter, as we become a bit lazy due to the cosy climate and hot food around. So if you know your body, eat and burn the calories accordingly. In winter, your body responds very well and doesn’t get tired that fast, so in a way it’s a good time to start any workout. Walking, along with yoga, especially Surya Namaskar and stretching, works well for me. I prefer to eat a full Indian meal in the afternoon like dal, sabzi, jawar roti and rice, while in the evening I prefer soups and salads with makhana. Don’t starve, but eat healthy in small portions and have ghee instead or oil. — Mayanka Sharma, actress

shed stress

I love to go for a run and focus on every part of my body. I eat what my body asks me to! I believe that the mind should be happy. If you sweat a lot, don’t take off your jacket. Winter can also be the depressive season. Just be happy and do whatever your body calls for. Don’t stress

— Trupti Khamkar, actress

Regular routine

In winter your endurance levels are good, you have less muscle breakdown, your body gets pumped up easily and you can see good results of exercise very soon. I have to look fit, since that is the demand of my character in the show Ziddi Dil Maane Na, as I play a special agent. I stick to my regular routine even during winter.

— Aditya Deshmukh, actor

Remain hydrated

In winter, the body burns additional fat even when you are not on the move or working out. If we club this with regular exercise, smart eating and sufficient sleep, getting a fit body is not difficult. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) improves the cardiovascular system. Diet is a make or break factor here. Avoiding overindulgence in packaged foods; eat fruits, vegetables, eggs, meat and dairy. A dehydrated body is ill-equipped to burn the fat, so keep hydrated. Consuming around three litres of water throughout the day and one litre during your workout with added electrolytes, such as common salt, lime or having a potassium-rich drink like coconut water, is a good way to keep healthy. — Vijay Thakkar, fitness entrepreneur
