Did you audition for the new character?
No, but we did have a look test. I feel my new character is simple and I like it.
You have never done comedy before. How do you feel about the show?
I have never tried this genre and I feel it is one of the most challenging genres. Mastering the perfect comic timing with dialogue delivery and punches is a challenge and I am excited to be a part of this show.
What is the difference between the characters that you have played earlier and the one you are going to play now?
All my previous characters have been completely different than Shiv. My character – Shiv Narayan Gupta in the show is of a simple man who lives by the rules of being self-sufficient and who does not believe in marriage or having a woman in his life.
This show had a different name. Why do the makers change it post lockdown?
Prior to the lockdown it was titled Hum –Ek Makan Ek Dukaan and it was a family drama with twists and turns. The makers and the channel have turned the tables upside down and changed the entire storyline of the show.
How does it feel to make a comeback in a daily soap?
It feels like coming home, as an actor daily soap gives you an opportunity to improve daily. You get a chance to make changes to your character.
Your lockdown experience?
I spent quality time with my kids. I took several online classes which will help me in my personal and professional life as well.
You had replaced Sushant Singh Rajput in Pavitra Rishta when he quit the show to join Bollywood. How was your interaction with him back then?
Sushant was an actor who envisioned his acting career and followed the path. We did have this common thing that we both played the role of Manav in Pavitra Rishta and he used to appreciate the work I did.
What are your views on the return of Pavitra Rishta?
I believe it is the least we can do to pay our respect and bid adieu to the talented late Sushant Singh Rajput.
