Casting director-turned-producer Seher Aly Latif passed away on Monday (June 7) following a cardiac arrest. She was in her early forties. Seher breathed her last at Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital, where she was admitted for renal failure. Seher was known for casting in Indian as well as international projects such as The Lunchbox, Shakuntala Devi, Furious 7, Viceroy’s House, McMafia and Sense 8, to name a few. In 2020, she bankrolled Swara Bhaskar’s Netflix series Bhaag Beanie Bhaag under her production house Mutant Films. Seher was also the executive producer for movies like Gold and Noblemen.

As soon as the news broke, several Bollywood celebs took to social media to express grief. The Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra tweeted, “I don’t believe it, unfair parting with a kind soul and real friend. Goodbye Seher, I hope there is another side.” While Huma Qureshi wrote, “I cannot believe you are gone.” Richa Chadha tweeted, “Good bye Seher. Gone too soon... tragic. Just numb. Speechless. Gutted. So many dreams remain... will miss you. Can’t believe this. God have mercy.”

Sharing a picture of Seher on Twitter, Nimrat Kaur wrote, “One of the kindest, most loving people Mumbai gifted me with. Still trying to process this unreal news.... Travel on into the light my dearest, sweetest Seher. The unpredictable, ghastly shortness of life remains baffling... Await to meet you on the other side.” Rajkummar Rao, Angad Bedi, Anurag Kashyap, Swara Bhaskar, Shibani Dandekar, Rohit Saraf, Mitali Palkar, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Nora Fatehi, Masaba Gupta, Maanvi Gagroo and many other celebs also took to their respective social media accounts to mourn Seher’s demise.
