Acting in the video of Dil Chahte Ho, singer Jubin Nautiyal’s latest song, gave Punjabi actress Mandy Takhar not just an opportunity to get back on the sets after the lockdown but also an opportunity to work with Jubin, one of her favourite singers. She flew to Uttarakhand to shoot in Dehradun and Mussoorie.

She says, “To get there was a task for we had to get our Covid test done before beginning the shoot. But it was exciting to get back to work after so long. We had to wrap up the shoot within two days and working for 20-25 hours a day did not feel tiresome. All of us were so happy to be finally working.”

The song comes from the T-Series team which had earlier produced the song Tum Hi Aana from the film Marjaavaan. The video is directed by noted Punjabi director Navjeet Buttar. The song was released on YouTube on Thursday.

Talking about her experience, Mandy says, “I knew I could capture the intense emotions on screen and I believe it is my USP as an actor. I liked the concept of the song when Navjeet told me about it. The music video required me to act.”

Talking about this romantic number, Mandy says she enjoys romance in real life too. “I like living in the clouds. Being in love is a beautiful feeling and one should always make the most of it,” she says.

On the movie front, Mandy will be seen in Punjabi films—Yes I Am A Student and Chhalle Mundiyaan. About the lockdown she says, “It has taught us patience and gratitude. I spent the entire time in Mohali and completed post-production work from home. I focused on myself. I started doing yoga.”

Happy about the portrayal of women characters in Pollywood, she says, “Actresses like Neeru Bajwa have set the bar high for others. I have a few ideas but as they are on the experimenting stage, I would wait for the right time to talk about it.”

Director’s cut

It is video director Navjit Buttar’s second song after the lockdown. His first was Babbal Rai’s Ae Kaash. Originally, the song was to be shot in Mohali or Chandigarh.

He says, “The concept of Dil Chahte Ho changed after the female voice of Payal Dev was introduced to it later. We planned to shoot it in Punjab but here we had to shoot with limited people whereas the video of the song demanded a crowd. Since Jubin is also from Dehradun and the Uttarakhand government had imposed fewer restrictions, we shifted our location to that place. All 55 field members were tested for Coronavirus. Luckily, everybody’s result came out negative.”

On the work front, he is as busy as he was before the lockdown. Another song with Jubin and also with artistes like Akhil and Ammy Virk. Those songs will be out by the end of this year.

He says, “The lockdown has taught me how to take things slow. And of course, earlier even song shot in foreign countries, now we are looking for locations that are closer to home.”
