2021 is all set to create history with the maximum number of films releasing in a single year. Here’s the list

With theatres opened to their full capacity now, blocking release dates for their projects is on top priority for every filmmaker. There is a number of films that will hit cinema halls and as per trade buzz, 2021 will be creating history with the maximum number of films releasing in a single year. Mark your calendar:

Celebrating 50 years of YRF

Yash Raj Films has announced the release dates of its top five much-awaited films. The line-up includes Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, releasing on March 19. Next film of YRF to release is Bunty Aur Babli 2, starring Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari. It will hit theatres on April 23. The third film is Shamshera starring Ranbir Kapoor, Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. It will release on June 25. Jayeshbhai Jordaar, starring Ranveer Singh, Shalini Pandey, BomanIrani and Ratna Pathak Shah, has got August 27 as its theatrical release date. Last but not the least, Prithviraj, starring Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood, will release on November 5.

Theatres or OTT

John Abraham’s Mumbai Saga, which was set for an OTT premiere, will reportedly now release in theatres on March 19. On the other side, Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi, which was supposed to release in March 2020, has reportedly faced a loss of around Rs 25 crore due to the delay in release. A trade source shares, “The makers are negotiating with theatres as well as OTT and trying to strike a lucrative deal. Considering it’s a film for the masses, the makers want to release it in cinemas and OTT simultaneously or within a window of four weeks.”

Festival releases

While we have had one big film releasing on festivals every year, this year will witness multiple festival releases. Eid 2021 releases include Salman Khan’s Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai (May 13) and John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate 2 (May 14). Dussehra will be an on-screen clash between RRR (October 13) and Maidaan (October 15). Diwali will be celebrated on big screen by Akshay Kumar’s Prithviraj and Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey. Both these films will release on November 5. Even Sunny Deol’s Apne 2 and Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi are also eyeing on Diwali 2021 for their release. A source shares, “Filmmakers are looking for festive releases to maximize business prospects. With so many films eyeing on Diwali f, it will be a massive fight for screens.” Meanwhile, on Christmas, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra are set to release.

Hollywood vs Bollywood

Vin Diesel’s Fast And Furious 9 will release in cinemas on May 28, clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Bellbottom. The Conjuring 3 is set to release on June 4, clashing with Ranveer Singh’s anticipated 83. And Tom Cruise’s action flick Top Gun will hit cinemas on July 2, clashing with Sidharth Malhotra’s Shershaan.

Other movies that have announced release dates so far include Roohi – March 11, Haathi Mere Saathi – March 26, Jhund – June 18, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui – July 9, KGF 2 – July 16, Radhe Shyam – July 30, Atrangi Re – August 6, Attack – August 13, Linga – September 9 and Dhaakad– October 1.
