Shimla, November 7

The Vice Chancellors (VCs) of 10 of the 17 private universities in Himachal Pradesh are set to be removed as they do not meet the eligibility criteria laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The three-member committee constituted to verify the documents of all 17 VCs has submitted its report with the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regularity Commission (HPPEIRC), pointing out that the VCs of 10 private universities are ineligible for the post.

While the VCs of two universities are overaged, eight others do not have the requisite qualification. These universities are APG Shimla University, Arni University, Baddi University, Bahra University, Chitkara University, Eternal University, Indus International University, the ICFAI, Maharishi Markandeshwar University and Shoolni University.

Commission chairman Maj-General (retd) Atul Kaushik said letters would be sent to the Chancellors of the erring universities for appropriate action. They would have to submit a compliance report by December 10.
