6 new vocational courses at Panchkula Government PG College

Government Post Graduate College in Sector 1 here has received a nod from the Higher Education Department of the Haryana Government to introduce six new vocational courses from the academic year 2020-21.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sanctioned new courses to the college as part of the National Skills Qualifications Framework Scheme.

“The courses have been launched keeping in view the emerging employment prospects in the related fields in the country. It is necessary to impart skill training to empower and encourage enterprising youth,” officials said.

Dr Archana Mishra, Principal of the college, said: “We had been trying since long to get an approval to introduce vocational courses, along with the traditional courses being already offered at the college. These courses have been approved by the UGC. We have added six more skill-oriented courses to our academic itinerary. While Bachelor of Vocation Education (BVoc) degrees include software development, information and technology (IT), banking, financial services and insurance and digital marketing, diploma courses are in the fields of information technology, web design, agriculture, mushroom cultivation and food processing.”

She said admissions to these courses would begin from this academic year (2020-21). The guidelines for the same would soon be available on the website of the Higher Education Department.
