With 63 +ve cases, Jalandhar district tally is 1,836 now

With 63 positive cases, the district tally of Covid-19 patients reached 1,836 on Thursday. The office of the district nodal officer has been sealed after a journalist, who tested positive on Wednesday, visited the Civil Hospital to get his report.

When the report came out, he was tested positive. Reportedly, he had come to know the status of his report when it emerged that he has tested positive.

An Additional Sessions Judge also tested positive on Wednesday. The entire staff of the judge was placed under quarantine after he tested positive.

Of the total cases reported positive on Thursday, the reports of 52 came from the Faridkot lab, while the rest were from private labs and TrueNat testing. Of these, 44 are contacts of previous patients and 19 are new cases. An Army man, a policeman and a pregnant woman are among those who tested positive on Thursday. Patients are from areas including Sammipur, Laddhewali, Rishi Nagar, Nanakpura, Saifabad, Model House, Kot Pakshian, Raipur Rasoolpur, Dhina, Vikapuri, Rama Mandi, Rohini Colony, Basti Peerdaad, Gopal Nagar, Jalandhar Cantt, New Jawahar Nagar, Maqsoodan, Makhdoompura, Nijatam Nagar, Lakshmipura among others.

Finally, Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences begins treating Covid patients

  • The Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Thursday started treating people infected with novel coronavirus with 18 beds for level-II and two beds for level-III patients.
  • On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, PIMS has earmarked 110 beds for level-II and 10 beds for level-III patients, which would combat the surge in the number of Covid-19 patients far more efficaciously and provide best possible care to them.
  • A team of civil and Health Department officials led by SDM-II Rahul Sindhu was entrusted by the DC to ensure elaborate arrangements at PIMS in coordination with the authorities concerned.
  • Disclosing more details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said the world was fighting with the pandemic and PIMS has to play a major role.
  • He said being a medical college, the hospital has a state-of-the-art infrastructure that would further assist the administration in tackling this pandemic effectively.

1 death, 18 new positive cases in Hoshiarpur

  • A 61-year-old man belonging to Dasuya subdivision died in Amritsar due to Covid-19, while 18 new cases were found positive in the district on Thursday.
  • Civil Surgeon Dr Jasvir Singh said out of 18 positive cases, one case each was from Banjar Bagh locality in Hoshiarpur city, Manesar Toll Plaza Mukerian and area under Health Centre Mand Pandher; while two cases each from Chakkowal Health Centre, Bhunga Health Centre and Garhshankar. Eight cases were from Mukerian and one patient was an NRI from Muscat.
  • With 289 samples taken on Thursday, the number of samples taken so far has reached 24,380. Of these, 22,813 samples were found negative, while the reports of 1,163 samples are awaited. As many as 43 samples have been found invalid.
  • Two of the 14 cases found positive on Wednesday were related to Gurdaspur and Jalandhar and their reports have been sent to the said districts. The total number of positive cases in the district is 408, of which 174 are active. So far, 13 deaths have occurred due to the virus in the district. OC
