Week-long drive to mark Women’s Day from March 2

DC forms high-power sub-panel for smooth conduct of events

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma today gave nod for embarking a week-long campaign in the district to mark the International Women’s Day.

Chairing a meeting of the district task force for 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' here at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said the drive, which would begin on March 2, would focus on generating awareness for women empowerment in the district.

He said during the campaign, convergence meetings of all departments would be held at the district level on March 2.

Sharma said on March 3, it would be replicated at the sub-division level, along with a door-to-door campaign by ASHA workers and auxiliary nursing midwives (ANMs) regarding awareness about 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'.

Likewise, he said during a signature campaign on March 4, an awareness seminar, poster and painting competitions would be held.

"March 5 would be observed as Girl Child Day during which tree plantation, sensitisation workshops and meetings would be organised,” Sharma said, adding that on March 6, health check-up camps, quiz and lectures would be held in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner said on March 7, a dialogue would be held with rural women on issues of women empowerment, along with awareness campaign, to make people aware of various girl child- related schemes of all departments.

He said on March 7, a special fair would be organised by women in the city and finally on March 8, felicitation of women achiever would be done during a public function.

The Deputy Commissioner also constituted a high-power sub-committee comprising Additional Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, MC Additional Commissioner Babita Kaler, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gurmeet Singh, SDM Jai Inder Singh, District Programme Officer AS Bhullar, District Public Relations Officer Manvinder Singh, Field Publicity Officer Rajesh Bali and others for smooth conduct of the events.

Sub Divisional Magistrates Amit Kumar, Sanjiv Sharma and Dr Jai Inder Singh, District Programme Officer AS Bhullar, District Development and Panchayat Officer Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota were among those other present.
