Jalandhar, January 11

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Medical Association president and the World Medical Association treasurer Dr Ravi Wenkhedkar on Friday condemned the growing incidents of violence in hospitals across the region.

Dr Wenkhedkar said violence of any sort was bad in nature and the aggrieved relatives of a patient always had a weapon to use medical boards, civil courts and consumer courts to nail those involved in any suspected incident of negligence.

IMA president Rajan Sharma, who accompanied Dr Wenkhedkar, said the Ayushman Bharat was a failed model of insurance. The government can work on other schemes like building hubs of 30 villages for provision of medical care, ambulance etc.

He also outrightly rejected a proposal of the government to impart six months certificate course for checking patients in rural areas against four-five common diseases. “Why the health of villagers should be compromised by any such move. How can our 15 years of studies match with a six-month certificate course? We are completely against any such plan of the government”, he said.
