Unions seek release of salaries

Joint Action Committee, CPF Karamchari Union, Punjab, and Pensioners' Association under a joint front held a protest against the state government and also burnt its effigy.

Members of the unions said government’s anti-employee policies had forced them to take such steps. “We have common demands and have been requesting the government to pay heed, but to no avail. Nobody is ready to listen to us,” the members said.

They said the government was not releasing salaries and pending dearness allowance on time and the old pension scheme was also not implemented.

“These were some of the issues which were not getting resolved,” said Sukhjit Singh, who was leading the joint front.

He said: "If the government would give attention to our issues and assure us to solve the matter, then they would also sit in their offices and serve people.

The members said such an attitude of the authorities was only aggravating the situation.

"We would intensify the protest, if our demands are not met,” they said.
