Jalandhar, March 2

Despite the police claiming to have cracking down on criminals, there seems to be no respite from rising snatching, robbery and theft incidents in the city.

A theft incident was reported at a battery shop in Basti Bawa Khel here today. The incident came to light when a store owner saw the broken shutter of the shop. He immediately informed the shop owner, Bunty, about the theft.

Bunty said the thieves took away new batteries and other items from the shop. The suspects, who were captured on CCTV cameras, came in a four-wheeler and used an iron rod to break into the shop.

The Basti Bawa Khel police have initiated investigation into the matter. They are scrutinising CCTV footage to get clue about the suspects.

A theft incident was reported from a house at gunpoint at New Sheetal Nagar, while thieves struck at a house near Dera Sat Kartar, Model Town recently. The suspects took away cash and gold ornaments from both houses.

Last month, 12 snatching and 27 theft incidents were reported from the city, raising concerns about public safety. Residents have urged the authorities concerned for stringent measures, including increased patrolling in crowded areas during the day and isolated spots at night.
