Phagwara, January 24

Workers of the Democratic Teachers’ Front, Phagwara, headed by Gurmukh Singh held a demonstration and burnt an effigy of the Andhra Pradesh Government in front of Town Hall here on Wednesday.

They were protesting against the action being taken by the Andhra Pradesh Government against anganwari workers under the ESMA Act. Holding planks (carrying messages like Andhra Pradesh Govt Murdabad, Anganwari Workers Zindabad, Workers te Zulam Bandh Karo, etc) in their hands, they raised slogans against the AP Government.

Kulwinder Kaur, president of the Anganwari Mulazam Union, Kapurthala, and Gurmukh Singh, president of the DTF, Phagwara, said the anganwari workers in Andhra Pradesh had been continuing with the strike over their demands for the last one month. But the Andhra Pradesh Government had not fulfilled their demands. Instead, the government was taking action against the Anganwari workers under the ESMA Act, which will not be tolerated.

They demanded that the ESMA Act should be withdrawn and demands of the anganwari workers fulfilled by the AP Government.
